Hammered and Etched. We love Tom Stogdon
June 27, 2012 in We Love

We love the work of Tom Stogdon. Here’s a little about Tom…
“In my practice I now work with stone, metal, and sometimes when I have the opportunity, plants, if there is not the need for longevity. The pieces I make vary in size and stature, but each is made up of many smaller component parts, which are in turn wrestled into a larger containing space. I am particularly interested in the natural influences of water and time on materials and an important part of my practice is the accelerating of this abrasive process.”

Yes, I love Tom’s work too. I was in the same studio group with him back in 2007-ish, and I liked his work then. But I’ve been impressed how his practice has grown in depth and self confidence, and I think he’s doing some amazing work. In fact, I think you have missed out some of his powerful work such as the metropolis series:

Hey Briony.
I love this work too. Actually I think we’re hoping to feature more of his work from other series in another post rather than cram everything in together. But totally, we will for sure.
Love to see some of your work too?
Regards,
Rich

It has this natural feel of construction, one part meticulously composed yet another part monumental and geographic, like a landmark brought about by natural forces. Very cool.
